“A lovely horse is an emotional experience of the kind that is spoiled by words.” ~ Beryl Markham (1936)

Beryl Markham knew a thing or two about horses. Where words fail, art — particularly art by equestrians — can succeed in conveying why the outside of a horse is still good for the inside of a man. Or woman.

The mission of Massachusetts Horse magazine is to make the vital connections possible that we all need to make our horse experiences richer. Last year we proudly debuted Our Horses, Our Art to celebrate local artists that own or are inspired by horses. Concurrent with Northampton’s 67th New England Morgan Horse and annual Sidewalk Sales, the art show drew unprecedented attention as the most valuable and extensive exhibit in Gallery TK history. Our Unbridled Hospitality opening reception hosted more than 100 guests from the arts and equestrian worlds. When asked again and again, “Will this become an annual event?” we knew we had a winner.

This year, we are pleased to announce Skera Contemporary Gallery will host Our Horses, Our Art, July 22 to 28, at its 221 Main Street gallery, in Northampton. New this year, our reception will offer samplings of imported wines by Province Imports and Belgian chocolates courtesy of Unbridled Chocolates. All invited artists are local to our side of the state. Some coach national champion equestrian teams. Others own rare horse breeds. They, like Markham, seek to express the horse through something more powerful than words.
